SEER2 questions
- What is SEER2?
- SEER2 is the efficiency rating the U.S. Department of Energy has used for central air conditioners and heat pumps since January 1, 2023. It uses a tougher test than the older SEER rating, so the same unit rates a little lower in SEER2.
- What is the minimum in Florida?
- Florida is in the Southeast region. A new split-system central air conditioner there must be at least 14.3 SEER2 under 45,000 BTU per hour, or 13.8 SEER2 at 45,000 BTU and above.
- Will I really save this much?
- Not necessarily. The figure comes only from the numbers you entered. Real use depends on your thermostat, the house, the ducts, how the new system is sized and installed, and the weather.
- Where do I find my current rating?
- On the yellow EnergyGuide label or the data plate on the outdoor unit, or from the model number. Older systems are rated in SEER; choose SEER and the calculator converts it.
